About Our Organization
Since 1988 Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County has been building homes in partnership with people in need of simple, decent, affordable housing. Homeowners invest “sweat equity” building their own homes and those of others, taking a series of homeowner education courses, and then purchase their homes with interest-free mortgages. Those mortgages are then recycled back to Habitat to help build more homes. Gifts to sponsor Habitat homes are reinvested into building homes for more families as mortgages are paid. More than 170 Monroe County families are now experiencing stability because of their Habitat home. Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County has been named an Affiliate of Distinction by Habitat for Humanity International since 2013, putting it in the top 1% of all Habitat affiliates nationwide.
